HOW WE HELP

Whatever's Broken — We Fix It Fast, We Fix It Right

Parramatta is one of Sydney’s most dynamic and densely populated urban centres and that means plumbing problems that range from leaking taps in heritage homes to central hot water failures in 30-storey apartment towers. Whatever the issue, whatever the property type, Sigma Plumbing has the experience and equipment to sort it.

Blocked Drains

Parramatta's mix of ageing residential pipes and busy commercial kitchens makes blocked drains one of our most frequent callouts. CCTV to locate it. High-pressure jetting to clear it. Completely not temporarily.

Emergency Burst Pipes

A burst pipe in a Parramatta home or commercial building causes serious damage fast. We isolate the break, contain the water loss, and complete the permanent repair in one visit any hour, any day.

Hot Water System Failure

No hot water disrupts everything. We carry stock and have same-day access to major brands across Greater Western Sydney most Parramatta hot water failures are fixed the same day you call.

Gas Fitting & Appliance Installation

Smell gas? Get out and call immediately. Our licensed gas fitters respond 24/7 to gas emergencies and manage all gas installations, appliance connections, and compliance work across Parramatta.

Sewer Line Blockages

When the main sewer line blocks, every drain in the building is affected. We diagnose with CCTV, clear with high-pressure jetting, and confirm with a post-clearance camera check so you're not calling us back next month for the same job.

Stormwater & Flood Prevention

Parramatta's rapid development and significant rainfall during storm season puts real pressure on ageing and undersized drainage systems. We upgrade stormwater infrastructure before flooding becomes an insurance claim.

Strata & Facility Maintenance

Parramatta is the strata capital of Western Sydney. Our team delivers prompt repairs, clear communication, and the documentation strata managers need every single time.

Commercial Plumbing

Parramatta CBD is a major business and hospitality hub. We work around your trading hours and arrive equipped to get the job done without shutting down your operations.

Leaking Taps & Fixtures

One dripping tap wastes over 2,000 litres a month. We repair and replace leaking taps, mixers, toilets, and cisterns across all fixture types, usually resolved in a single visit.

Pipe Relining & Repairs

Ageing clay and early-PVC pipes beneath Parramatta's older properties don't always need excavation. No-dig pipe relining creates a new pipe inside the old one done in a day, no trenches, no mess.

Backflow Prevention

Sydney Water requires certified backflow prevention devices on many commercial and strata properties across Parramatta. We supply, install, test, and certify keeping your property compliant and your water supply protected.

Roof & Stormwater Plumbing

Blocked gutters and undersized downpipes cause more preventable property damage in Western Sydney than most owners realise. We inspect, repair, and upgrade roof drainage before storm season puts it to the test.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

The Questions Parramatta Locals Ask — Answered Without the Runaround

How quickly can Sigma Plumbing respond to a plumbing emergency in Parramatta?

Yes. Sigma Plumbing holds a current NSW Fair Trading Plumbing & Drainage Contractor Licence. All work is performed by or under the direct supervision of a licensed tradesperson verifiable on the NSW Fair Trading public register. We issue a Certificate of Compliance for all notifiable plumbing and drainage work as standard.

Yes, every day of the year. Our 24/7 line is answered by a licensed plumber around the clock including weekends and public holidays. For burst pipes, blocked sewers, gas leaks, and flooding across Parramatta,  we target 60-minute attendance. No call-out fee within our primary service area.

Pricing depends on the job. As a guide: blocked drain clearance ranges from $150 to $350; hot water system replacement from $900 to $2,500 or more depending on unit type and brand. All work is priced per job not by the hour so there are no surprises if a task runs longer than expected. Written fixed-price quote provided before any work starts.

In most cases, yes. We stock common units and have same-day access to supplier inventory for Rheem, Rinnai, Dux, and Aquamax. Call before midday and same-day installation is usually achievable. Hot water failures are treated as priority jobs we confirm stock and give you a firm arrival window when you call.

The most common causes across Parramatta are tree root intrusion into ageing clay or early-PVC pipe joints particularly in established suburbs like North Parramatta, Westmead, and Wentworthville followed by grease and fat buildup in kitchen lines and hair accumulation in bathroom drains. In Parramatta’s high-density apartment buildings, “flushable” wipes are a consistent culprit. Structural pipe failure is increasingly common in Parramatta’s pre-1990s housing stock. We use CCTV to confirm the actual cause before recommending a fix.

Yes. We work regularly with businesses, hospitality operators, medical and childcare facilities, schools, retail landlords, and commercial property managers across the Parramatta LGA. Our capabilities include backflow prevention compliance, grease trap servicing, large-scale hot water systems, and full fit-out plumbing. We work around your operating hours and supply complete compliance documentation.

The most recognisable sign is a rotten egg or sulphur smell near a gas appliance or pipe. Other indicators include a hissing sound along a gas line, a pilot light that keeps extinguishing, gas bills spiking without a usage change, and discoloured vegetation above underground lines. If you suspect a leak: leave immediately, avoid all switches and electrical devices, ventilate if safe, call your gas supplier’s emergency line, then call Sigma Plumbing. Our gas fitters respond 24/7.

A Certificate of Compliance (COC) is the legal document confirming that completed plumbing or gas work meets Australian Standards and the Plumbing Code of Australia. In NSW it is legally required for all notifiable work and is essential for insurance, property records, and future sales or lease transactions. Sigma Plumbing issues a COC on every applicable job as standard.

Yes. Parramatta has one of Greater Sydney’s most active strata markets and we work regularly with strata managers, owners corporations, and body corporate committees across the full LGA. Services include emergency repairs, preventative maintenance programs, hot water system management, compliance inspections, and written service reports after every attendance.

Most straightforward blockages clear in 30 to 60 minutes. Jobs involving CCTV inspection, main sewer jetting, or pipe relining take longer. We provide a realistic time estimate before arriving and always complete a post-clearance camera inspection on sewer jobs to confirm the line is genuinely clear not just temporarily flowing.

We are accredited installers for Rheem, Rinnai, Dux, Aquamax, Bosch, Vulcan, Solahart, and Apricus, and we service ChromagenThermannEverhot, and most other brands found in Parramatta properties. Our vans carry common parts for major brands to avoid return visits for stock. For older or uncommon systems, we give an honest assessment of repair versus replacement.

Yes. Parramatta’s position within the Parramatta River catchment, combined with high development density and ageing stormwater infrastructure, creates real flood risk for many properties. We assess your complete drainage situation and install targeted solutions stormwater pit upgrades, overflow relief systems, subsoil drainage, sump pump installations, and perimeter drainage channels. Prevention is always cheaper than recovery.

Keep cooking fats and oils out of the kitchen drain. Fit strainer covers in showers and basins. Flush only toilet paper and human waste. Have your hot water anode rod checked every five years. If you have established trees within 10 metres of your sewer line, book a preventative CCTV inspection every two to three years. Most major plumbing failures we attend gave clear warning signs long before they became critical.

Yes. Sigma Plumbing operates every day of the year and our emergency line is active 24 hours a day including Christmas Day and all NSW public holidays. After-hours call-outs may carry a surcharge we always advise of any additional charges before proceeding. Early-morning weekend slots are available for non-urgent work.

Our primary area covers the full Parramatta LGA Parramatta CBD, North Parramatta, WestmeadMerrylands, Granville, Wentworthville, Northmead, Winston Hills, Carlingford, and surrounding suburbs. We also service the adjacent Blacktown, Cumberland, Hills, and Ryde LGAs. Call us to confirm coverage we travel for larger commercial projects and ongoing strata contracts.

Old Pipes. New Towers. One City With a Lot Going On Underground.

Parramatta occupies a unique position in Sydney’s urban landscape. It’s simultaneously one of the city’s oldest European settlements and one of its fastest-growing urban renewal corridors — and that combination creates a plumbing environment that is more varied and more demanding than almost anywhere else in Greater Western Sydney.

In the established residential suburbs — North Parramatta, Wentworthville, Westmead, and Northmead — the dominant plumbing challenge is ageing infrastructure. Clay sewer and stormwater lines installed through the 1950s, 60s, and 70s are now decades past their intended service life. They crack at joints, shift with seasonal soil movement, and are steadily infiltrated by the roots of the mature trees that define these streets. The result is a predictable cycle of recurring blockages that no amount of repeat jetting resolves permanently — because the problem is structural, not superficial.

In Parramatta’s rapidly growing CBD apartment corridor, the challenges are different but equally significant. High-rise strata towers concentrate plumbing loads onto infrastructure that was often designed to minimum specification. Central hot water systems serving entire floors require proactive management, not reactive emergency response. And increased hard surface coverage across development sites amplifies stormwater runoff beyond the capacity of original drainage systems during heavy Western Sydney storm events.

Tree root intrusion — the dominant cause of recurring sewer blockages in Parramatta’s established suburbs. Mature trees throughout North Parramatta, Wentworthville, and Northmead target ageing pipe joints with consistent precision. Jetting clears them temporarily; pipe relining stops them permanently.

Grease and fat accumulation — a particular issue in Parramatta given its density of residential properties and busy hospitality precinct along Church Street and the CBD. Cooking oils solidify on internal pipe walls over time, progressively blocking the line without warning.

Foreign objects — “flushable” wipes remain the most common foreign object cause of sewer blockages we encounter in Parramatta’s apartment buildings. They do not break down in sewer systems regardless of labelling and accumulate at pipe junctions until the line is fully obstructed.

Structural pipe failure — cracked and partially collapsed clay pipes in Parramatta’s older housing stock, caused by decades of soil movement, root pressure, and age. Only CCTV identifies it. Only relining or excavation resolves it permanently.

If you’ve had the same drain cleared more than once by different plumbers with no lasting result, the cause is almost certainly structural — and clearing the blockage without inspecting the pipe will produce the same temporary outcome every time.

CCTV drain inspection passes a high-resolution waterproof camera through the full length of the pipe, recording the exact location and nature of the blockage and the condition of the pipe wall. That information transforms a reactive clearing job into a targeted, lasting repair. Industry data places burst and blocked pipes at close to half of all home water damage insurance claims in Australia, with average claims around $5,000. A CCTV inspection at $250–$450 is the most cost-effective step any Parramatta property owner can take.

  • Fit strainers in all shower recesses and basins to catch hair and soap before they enter the drain.
  • Never pour cooking oils or fats down the kitchen sink — bin them in a sealed container.
  • Flush only toilet paper and human waste, regardless of any product’s “flushable” claim.
  • Schedule a preventative CCTV drain inspection every two to three years if you have established trees within 10 metres of your sewer line.
  • Have your hot water system’s anode rod checked every five years to extend system life and avoid an avoidable emergency replacement.

Don’t wait if you notice any of the following:

  • Multiple drains running slowly at the same time — a main sewer blockage, not individual drain issues.
  • Gurgling or bubbling from toilets or drains when water is used elsewhere in the property.
  • Sewage odour inside the building — sewer gas or an active overflow.
  • Water appearing in one fixture when a different fixture is in use.
  • Visible sewage overflow from an outdoor overflow relief gully (ORG) — a sewer emergency requiring immediate professional attention.

Using a household plunger or chemical cleaner on a main sewer blockage is ineffective and carries real risks. Call a licensed plumber.

PROBLEMS SOLVED. RESULTS DELIVERED.

Three Parramatta Jobs — What Happened, What We Found, What We Fixed

The Drain That Beat Three Plumbers — North Parramatta

Property: Brick veneer home, North Parramatta, built 1963

The Situation: The homeowner had paid three separate plumbing companies to clear the same sewer drain over 14 months. Each cleared the line and left. Within six to eight weeks, the blockage returned. The homeowner was spending money repeatedly with no lasting outcome.

What We Did: We ran a full CCTV inspection rather than clearing the drain again. The camera found a mature camphor laurel root intrusion at 5 metres and a section of the original clay pipe that had partially collapsed at the 8-metre mark present through every previous visit, never identified. We showed the homeowner the footage and presented three clearly priced options.

The Result: The homeowner chose pipe relining. Completed in a single day, no excavation. Post-relining inspection confirmed a clean, sealed pipe throughout. No recurrence in the 15 months since.

What This Shows: A recurring drain blockage in an older North Parramatta home is almost always a structural problem. CCTV inspection finds it. Pipe relining fixes it permanently.

CBD Apartment Tower, Friday Night, No Hot Water — Parramatta

Property: 28-unit residential strata tower, Parramatta CBD

The Situation: The central hot water system serving the upper floors failed on a Friday evening, cutting hot water to 11 units heading into the weekend. The strata manager needed urgent action, clear resident communication, and full compliance paperwork before the scheduled owners corporation meeting the following week.

What We Did: Sigma Plumbing had a licensed gas fitter on-site within 70 minutes. The heat exchanger had failed beyond repair. We sourced a commercial replacement unit from our Western Sydney supplier network, arranged Saturday morning delivery, and assisted the strata manager with a resident update notice.

The Result: Replacement unit installed and commissioned by midday Saturday under 18 hours from the initial call. All 11 units had hot water restored before the afternoon. Certificate of Compliance and installation documentation delivered to the strata manager by Monday. The owners corporation subsequently engaged Sigma Plumbing as preferred maintenance contractor.

What This Shows: A Parramatta CBD strata emergency requires speed, logistics, and compliance documentation delivered simultaneously. That’s exactly what we bring.

Church Street Café, Grease Trap Failure, Trading Day at Risk — Parramatta

Property: Ground-floor café, Church Street Parramatta CBD

The Situation: The café’s kitchen drain had been running slowly for two weeks. On a Wednesday morning before opening, it stopped completely with a full trading day and pre-booked events scheduled. The owner needed it fixed before the doors opened.

What We Did: Sigma Plumbing attended within the hour. A CCTV inspection confirmed a severe grease accumulation blockage in the kitchen drain line and a partially blocked grease trap that had been significantly overdue for servicing. We cleared the main blockage with high-pressure jetting, serviced the grease trap, and advised the owner on a servicing schedule to prevent recurrence.

The Result: Kitchen drains fully operational before the café opened. The owner implemented a quarterly grease trap maintenance schedule. No repeat blockage in the eight months since.

What This Shows: Commercial kitchen drain failure in a busy Parramatta hospitality venue is a trading emergency not just a plumbing problem. Fast response, correct diagnosis, and same-visit resolution are what matter.
